Finding my feet and my future at Postworks
Author: Evie King
I spent a lot of time researching apprenticeships to find out what I wanted to do and where I wanted an apprenticeship to take me. This also meant I spent a lot of time thinking about where I wanted to work and what type of environment would suit me. I knew I wanted something that would challenge me, a place where I would be learning real skills that would boost my early career, not just a place where I would tick a box.
I had a sense I’d found the right place right from the interview at Postworks. Keisha was a star in a sea of scary interviewers, as she not only listened and was genuinely interested in what I had to say but also saw me for what I had to offer. I left the interview with a sense of familiarity with the company, and I could see myself working there. A few months down the line, it lived up to my expectations. I am now part of a team that is friendly, passionate, and genuinely happy working for Postworks.
Completing an apprenticeship can be hard work, if I’m totally honest, but at Postworks I have been given the most support, especially while trying to juggle all the schoolwork I receive while also growing and getting stuck into my role properly. One of the best things about my apprenticeship so far has been the mix of learning and doing. I’ve picked up so many new skills while also being prompted to complete courses covered by Postworks to increase my knowledge of systems like Google Sheets, because these skills are so important in creating a career for yourself. My manager constantly checks in and is available to give support in many situations where I need help. It’s great to be reminded that it’s okay to ask questions and ask for help from a supportive team.
The culture at Postworks is what makes it special. It’s collaborative and fast-paced, but never stressful. Everyone is happy to share what they know, and there’s a real sense that we’re all working toward the same goal. Small things, like getting a shoutout for the work I put into a project, have made me feel valued from the start. Being an individual who is at the beginning of her career, it’s great to constantly feel supported in all areas, it’s really one of the best parts about working for Postworks.
My apprenticeship at Postworks has taught me more than I expected it to, not just about the job itself, but also about how I work best and how I can make myself the most productive. I’ve learned to trust my own judgment, especially when making decisions without managerial support, and also to stay curious even when things feel unfamiliar. Balancing work and study has definitely tested my time management, but it’s also shown me that I’m capable of a lot more than I thought.
