Plot twist: I got the job anyway
Author: Laura Cook, PA to Growth Director
I’d been thinking about a change for a while. When redundancies started at my previous company, it felt like the right time to see what else was out there.
I came across the Personal Assistant role at Postworks on a job site, and it stood out straight away. The role felt varied and interesting, and the company values really aligned with my own. Even from the advert, you could tell this was a place that values its people.
Applying was simple. I heard back the next working day and arranged a screening call that same afternoon. I spoke to Keisha, Postworks Talent Lead, who was easy to talk to and made me feel comfortable straight away. It didn’t feel like a typical interview. It felt more like a friendly conversation.
Then came the plot twist. That evening, I found out I was pregnant.
I didn’t want to waste anyone’s time or step into a role knowing I might not qualify for maternity pay, so I called Keisha and explained. I decided to step back from the in-person interview we had booked for the next day.
The response I got changed everything.
“Congratulations, super happy for you. That’s not a reason not to meet you.”
That told me everything I needed to know about Postworks.
I went to the interview and was offered the role the same day.
Now, six months on, I’m in my last working week before maternity leave. It feels bittersweet stepping away so soon after joining, but I already know I’ll be coming back to something special.
The team have been supportive from day one. The culture is genuine, and it really does feel like a place that cares about its people. That’s shown in the way I’ve been supported with maternity leave too. I’ll receive a full year on full pay, prorated to reflect my time with the business, which made a real difference. I’ve also been involved in hiring my maternity cover, which has made the handover feel smooth and considered. You see it in the big moments, and in the small, everyday ones too.
Joining Postworks has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. I’m proud to be part of it, and I’m already looking forward to what comes next.
